Maersk Breaks Ground for State-of-the-Art Cold Store Facility in Mehsana, Gujarat

In a groundbreaking ceremony, A.P. Moller–Maersk initiated the construction of its cutting-edge Cold Store facility in Mehsana, Gujarat, India, destined exclusively for HyFun Foods. This facility aims to provide advanced temperature-controlled storage solutions for frozen processed food items, enhancing the integrity of the cold chain logistics.

Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director at Maersk South Asia, emphasized the facility's commitment to top-notch operational accuracy and temperature compliance. The strategically located 14,700-pallet position facility at Fanidhar Mega Food Park will be one of India's largest single-shed cold stores, streamlining cargo storage for HyFun Foods.

The temperature-controlled facility spanning 2,400 m² in Mehsana is set to garner an investment exceeding US$13.5 million and will serve as a storage space for frozen processed food items.

Maersk's integrated cold chain solution encompasses landside transportation, coordination at the port, customs clearances, and ocean transportation for export cargo. The company's proprietary Captain Peter solution, a Remote Container Management system, ensures real-time visibility and monitors critical elements during cold chain transportation.

Kamlesh Karamchandani, Director of Sales & Marketing at HyFun Foods, highlighted the significance of an unbroken cold chain as the backbone of their supply chain model. The Maersk cold store simplifies supply chains with a single-window solution, reinforcing food security and quality.

The Mehsana facility will embrace operational and sustainable excellence, utilizing Ammonia refrigeration with zero Global Warming Potential and high-efficiency compressors for lower power consumption. Fire-resistant PIR panels, a human-friendly staging area, and a robust firefighting system underscore the commitment to safety.

Maersk's investment in solar energy aligns with NetZero targets for 2040, emphasizing green building requirements like rain harvesting, STP, and zero discharge. The facility, adhering to world-class design and engineering parameters, will offer real-time inventory visibility, empowering customers to make informed decisions.
